moreResolved Question: Mistakenly submitted an identity theft report. Help!?
My son and I share the last name. I got a letter saying a card had been closed for late payments. Lately I've been having trouble after losing my job. I didn't immediately recognize that card since I have so many and went on and called the FTC and filed an identity theft complaint. They man said several charges had been made. I later remember after having talked to my son about it that I did authorize him to make some purchases with it and now I don't know what to do!
Is it easy to just call and let them know it was just a careless mistake and that I overreacted? I know I am behind but I am willing to make arrangements/settle and pay off my debt. I don't want this to be blown out of proportion. Any ideas?
Also, I had these cards' addresses changed to my son's so he could take care of it. He did make some payments but ultimately he too fell behind.
Please help
moreResolved Question: What does return to original creditor mean?
I got a letter from LTD Financial Services, L.P. dunning me for an account from Compass Bank. I replied and offered to pay a certain amount (about 10%) of the total amount, and asked them to reply to my offer in writing.
Someone called about a week later acting like they had not received the letter. When I pressed them on it, she said they wouldn't even acknowledge it, because the offer was so low. I got into an argument with her about wanting them to reply to me in writing and not on the phone. She wound up hanging up on me.
I wrote a complaint to their email address on the letter saying that I had wanted them to correspond with me in writing, but I could see that they didn't want to. I complained about the disrespectful and sarcastic way their employees had treated us. I then told them I wanted them to stop all contact with me according to the FTC requirement. I included in the email the text of the letter saying the same thing that I mailed to them this morning.
I went to the FTC website and filed a complaint.
This morning I got an email from LTD saying they had closed my account and returned it to the original creditor. I can't say I expected that. Any idea what that means?
moreResolved Question: How do I find out if this debt collector is real or a fraud?
My mother was contacted today via a message on her machine about a debt collector calling themselves MCO or NCO saying that I had an outstanding debt from 2003 for a gas bill. I contacted them and found out they had my address correct and the lady assured me they were not a scam after I asked telling me to check them out on the BBB website, When I did I found out they were not accredited and that the FTC has sued NCO for illegally reporting false debt on peoples credit reports. I have perfect credit and have worked very hard. Does anyone know for sure if these people are a real company that just messed up before, it is it a bunch of bunk I can just forget about.

I live in a community called Cherry Grove Village in Miami, FL. I was happy with my Comcast cable. Unfortunately, I received a notice saying Comcast would no longer be available for any tenants and now we have to use Camco, which provides DirecTv. I tried to cut out the middle man and just sign up for DirecTv myself but they wouldn't let me. I did some research and apparently Camco has very horrible reviews. Is there anything I can do about these people monopolizing the cable here? Can I report this to the FTC or some other regulations bureau?
moreVoting Question: Why is it that Companies with "800" numbers can reverse call ID without permission, but you cannot get thiers?
The phone rings, the caller id says "UNKNOWN," yet you call a utility company asks "are you calling about..." then the number you ar calling from. What I don't understand, why can the phone company NOT GIVE the caller info, to complain to the FTC for the "do not call list" complaints area with? Does this not make sense to you? My line is totally private, yet Toledo Edison (Utility) knows when I call, without entering numbers. "Star 82" was never used, so the number should have still been blocked everytime I called.
I know that the "toll free" or "watts" system is old, but that doesn't explain what I want to know. I'm wondering if there is a law that states that we US and/or Canadian citizens number rights do not matter, unless we go to the law to get their number. Do busineses have more rights that the citizens do? Why?
Yes, not paying "the toll" may be justification, but who wrote the law saying that was legal? When was it written and enacted?
It almost sounds like both government, who legally can get the number and business are on the same exact level. What I am asking, who madeit that way? WHy was it made tht way? And why are us citizens not so importantto get a telemarketer's number reversd, like they do, when we want off of thier lists, or for "do not call" purposes?
moreResolved Question: What Bank of America's Policy when I put a security freeze on my checking account?
What is BOA policy? They said they put a "hold" on the account when I reported a security problem. However, this "hold" sounded like they had debited my account on a certain date $888,000. It says your checking account is overdrawn by that much(says eight-hundred thousand dollars and whatever dollars and cents) The Banking center Reps and the BOA call center reps both said this was the standard "hold" they put on there when I reported an account security issue on that certain date. I reported all of this to the FTC, and the FDIC and have a police report--What the heck --an account hold shouldn't be an overdrawn amount with a debit for this amount on a certain date?!!
moreResolved Question: How can I get fraudulent telemarketers to stop calling?
There's numerous times I get a phone call from a number I don't know. I never answer them anymore because I know it's a fraud and that they're just going to keep trying to talk me into things.
Examples: (402) 982-0665 , (887)555-2232
I've considered alerting the FTC, but they need a lot more information then what I have.. especially when I'm not even answering the calls.
They even called yesterday while I was asleep.
Is there any way to block numbers from calling my cell phone?

moreResolved Question: What to do if scammed online?
I made a purchase on TopQualityComp.com, and it turns out this website is a bunch of scam artists. Unfortunately, I was stupid in sending them a wire, and am unable to dispute the transaction at this point. My goods never shipped. I am out $260. moreResolved Question: How can this be legal? (about Identity theft)?
Ok so someone stole my identity almost 2 years ago. I put a fraud alert on my credit which requires that I get a phone call to authorize any credit inquiries and have not had any issues since resolving all of the issues last year. Now, I get a phone call 2 days ago telling me that I owe $1000 for a Payday loan taken out in my name. They were really rude to me and obviously think I am a scammer when really I have once again been scammed. Anyways, here are the reasons I am confused as to how this could happen:
*Payday loan taken out over a website, not in person
*They listed my address in Florida
*They used a bank account which deposit was made to was not in my name
*The bank account they used is in Michigan
*The bank account contact info and home address as well as my name do not match
*They did not check my credit for a payday loan
*They are threatening to report it on my credit report in 5 business days if I haven't overnight mailed a police report to them
So how can I be pushed into a corner over this?! I am furious. I've already filed a report with the FTC, made a police report, and I've done everything I've been told to do. But these people are demanding that I buy a copy of my police report to send to them (It costs $15 at my local police station) and then pay to have it overnighted. If I don't do this today they are saying they're gonna report it to my credit in a couple days. It seems to me that being so careless on who they give money to should be illegal...is it? How can you let someone take out a payday loan and put it in someone elses bank account, and on top of it, its all online so theres no way to verify identity through picture ID. I've told them I am mailing the legal FTC affidavit tomorrow but they say thats not good enough.
Second issue is, these people have been torturing me for 2 years. They racked up a decent amount of damage 2 years ago, then last year I found out they "piggybacked" to use my credit by taking out a new home cable-internet-phone service in my name. It slipped though the cracks because I already had that service provider. So they didn't have to run my credit that time either. And now they are taking out Payday loans in my name which don't require a credit check. So how will this ever end? They could do this to me forever it seems like :( And I am trying to get a job at a bank but I would be denied based on poor credit over this. It's really draining me of energy and I just feel like giving up :( What should I do?
P.S. The logical thing to do would be to ask the police for help, right? Well only if the police were willing to help, which they are not :(

moreResolved Question: Do i have a legit claim against a Debt Collector?
This past sunday, i received a voice message from Central Credit Services based out of florida. Furius, that i received a call from them on a sunday, i called back to curse them out. Well, there message stated that they are closed on sundays. i called the number that they called me from. Anyway, to jump ahead, just yesterday, i received anothere message, this time i called back and got a hold of someone. This was the rudest woman i have ever talked to. She started yelling at me. She kept telling me that i had a $2,000 line of credit, with a bank that my account has been closed for at least 3 years with. kept telling her no. Told me to stop being a coward, and to pay my bills. Told her i wanted to talk to her manager. She transfered me, but just to voice message. So i called back, talk to another manager, told her the situation. She didn't say a word, asked her what she was going to do about it. then she connected the last lady i talked to who went off on me again. Saying she never called me a coward. Claimed her supervisor was standing right by her the whole time we had the conversation. She then refused to give me her name or to transfer me to another supervisor and she hung up on me. Then this morning, they called me again, but i didn't answer it. I live in low income housing, and just barely getting by. Told them in the past, that i will be filing for bankruptcy, they keep calling. Already, filed a complaint with the FTC, about them calling me on a sunday, when they aren't open. I was told they have to turn their automatic dialer off when they are not open. Any advice would help.

Don't you think that you have a right to charge someone an X amount of Dollars for calling for someone that isn't there and repeats on doing it after you have told them that person don't live there? http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt107.shtm
I picked out some of the questions and answers on www.donotcall.gov
Why would I register my phone number with the National Do Not Call Registry?
The National Do Not Call Registry gives you an opportunity to limit the telemarketing calls you receive. Once you register your phone number, telemarketers covered by the National Do Not Call Registry have up to 31 days from the date you register to stop calling you.
When I register my phone number, how long until it shows up on the National Do Not Call Registry?
After you register, your phone number will show up on the registry by the next day. Telemarketers have up to 31 days to get your phone number and remove it from their call lists.
If I registered by phone, will I receive a confirmation?
No, but you can verify that your number is on the registry online at www.donotcall.gov or by calling the registry’s toll-free number (1-888-382-1222) and following the prompts for verifying that your number is on the registry.
If I choose to register my phone number, how will my information be used and disclosed?
We collect your phone number and store it in the National Do Not Call Registry so that telemarketers and sellers covered by the FTC’s rules can remove your phone number from their call lists. Telemarketers are required to search the registry every 31 days and delete from their call lists phone numbers that are in the registry. Phone numbers in the registry also may be shared with law enforcement to assure compliance with federal and state law.
If you contact us via the Internet, we also collect your email address to confirm your registration request. We will store your email address in a secure manner, separate from your telephone number. We will not share your email address with telemarketers.
Can I register all my family and friends?
You should register only your own telephone numbers.
What happens if I register more than one number at a time online?
You will get an email for each number you register online. You need to open each email and click on the link in each email within 72 hours to register those numbers.
I moved and got a new phone number. Do I need to register the new number?
Yes.
Can I register online if I do not have an active email address?
No. The online registration process requires an active email address. If you register online, we will send you an email message with a link in it. You need to click on the link in the email within 72 hours to finalize your registration. If you do not have an email address, you can register by phone
(1-888-382-1222).
If I register my number on the National Do Not Call Registry, will it stop all telemarketing calls?
No. Placing your number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop most telemarketing calls, but not all. Because of limitations in the jurisdiction of the FTC and FCC, calls from or on behalf of political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors would still be permitted, as would calls from companies with which you have an existing business relationship, or those to whom you’ve provided express agreement in writing to receive their calls.
Are calls from political organizations or calls soliciting for charities covered?
Political solicitations are not covered by the TSR at all, since they are not included in its definition of “telemarketing.” Charities are not covered by the requirements of the national registry. However, if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000.
If I don’t want to put my number on the National Do Not Call Registry, can I still stop telemarketers from calling?
Yes. Even if you do not register with the National Do Not Call Registry, you can still prohibit individual telemarketers from calling by asking them to put you on their company’s do not call list.
What is the relationship between the state do not call lists and the National Do Not Call Registry in terms of coverage?
The National Do Not Ca

moreResolved Question: Why are some At&t customers so spoiled?
I work for at&t Customer Service, and i've never knew there so many disorderly and crazy people in this world.
Customers throw a fit and throw there and attempt to throw there weight around, until they figure it..its not going to get them anywhere.
Some customers also feel that they should be exempt from all the other 80 million customers, they want rules of there own.
For some reason customers call in and feel that at&t supervisor are rich, yea rich like limo, plane, tux wearing, sky scrapper with there office, no!!!!!!!!!! the supervisors only make 70 cents more than a regular agent.
They've been watching CNN for way to long to believe that there actually speaking to "Cooperate Manager" yea cooperate, with the jets and big bank accounts, when in reality there only speaking to someone who's on the other side telling the agent things to have to stop from speaking with the customer.
Supervisors hate to speak to customers and not its not there pleasure, they'll tell the agent, tell the customer im not here.
About Government fees and taxes, they feel that a at&t supervisor can override the FTC and FCC, this doesn't even make sense.
Bassically they whine about every little thing and thinks that a supervisor can help them and think there speaking to a big supervisor and most of the times supervisors give the calls to pretend supervisors.
moreResolved Question: How to prove Telemarketer violated FTC rules?
I know all the rules and just waiting for them to make a mistake and break one of the rules. how am I supposed to prove it? Apparently im not aloud to record because thats considered wiretapping?
IMPORTANT: Do not secretly tape live telemarketing calls! Under G.L. c. 272, § 99, the secret interception of a wire communication is a felony. In Commonwealth v. Hyde, 434 Mass. 594 (2001), a motorist was prosecuted under this law for secretly taping a confrontation with police that he later alleged to have been abusive. Not only did he not prove his point about the police conduct, but he also got convicted of a wiretap violation.
moreResolved Question: Who or What do you think is the culprit for today's economic crisis? ?
Answer however you like.
I feel it is the greed of those corporate heads and the immediate staff they have employed and the tactics they use to exploit the consumer. I mean really why would you pay $5.00 for a can of 99 olives when you could have bought the same can with 100 olives for $2.50. The idea here is that some "bright guy" is going to save his employer money by removing one olive from the can, that's less to process and package and purchase on their part. But they call it new and improved remove the count of olives off the packaging so the consumer doesn't realize they are not getting the same amount but less and are paying more...for what? So other companies see this and then market the same way leaving the consumer little or no choice. (this is merely an example)
I would also like to point out the most obvious. Fuel price gouging, which is still going on. Companies have overstock and yet the price is going back up....what!!!! How about "paper" entities that do not actually hold oil but will trade in it driving the market value up...ho win the heck can you sell what you don't own and it be legal? That would be oversight on the part of the FTC to regulate crap like that, but they haven't because they have not been allowed to.
In order to keep this short Ill go at it like this.
1. Manufacturer greed.
2. Failing regulations.
3. No regulations.
4. Price gouging.
5. Consumer laziness.
When you look a the business that are closing, keep these things in mind. Could you have afforded those prices prior to them having to close the doors, does it really cost that to produce, ship, market, and general overhead (yes there is plenty of greed there in case you didn't see the utility bills), will the rest of the consumer nation wake up and say wait a second these prices are to high and unrealistic for the product and the cost that have accrued from the labor in the sweat shops to the store front?

I recently found out that a credit card was opened in my name on August 15th 1999 and charged off on January 31st 2001. It was an associates visa credit card. The debt was sold to Midland funding in 2001. I saw an entry from Midland funding on my credit report last year and disputed the charge however Midland did not respond to my letter and the entry was removed from my credit report. After further investigation I found that the debt was sold to the current law firm suing me in 2006. I have received a judgment to garnish my wages yesterday. I have call the FTC to report Identity theft and also contacted the credit bureaus. I have been advised to obtain a police report and will do so today. My first question is can they legally sue me or has the statue of limitations passed, and being that this a case of Identity theft what can I do to resolve this situation. Whatever I do I have to act fast....the next court date is January 15th. Any help will be greatly appreciated....This feels so overwhelming.
The account was opened in Illinois.
I apologize I live in Illinois, Cook county. I lived here at the time the account was opened.
The law firm had an address on file however I hadn't lived there for 10 years. They saied a summons was sent to that address the summons was refused however no stated that I no longer live there. Keep in mind that I have no clue who lives there know.
moreResolved Question: How can I stop illegal practices by a telemarketing company?
This is a very large telemarketer that has contracts with many big-name corporations to make outbound sales calls. Even if you are listed on the national Do Not Call registry, the telemarketer can still call you on behalf of any company that you already have a business relationship with. (In this case, it's my bank, one branch of a huge financial services institution that is trying to sell me insurance.) Fair enough. But the law states that if you ask them to put you on THEIR Do Not Call list, they must do so, & they may not call you again without risking up to $11,000 in fines. I have already filed a complaint with the FTC because the telemarketer refused to put me on their do not call list, instead telling me I had to call the FTC at 1-888-382-1222. Which I did, & it turned out to be simply the National Do Not Call registry, which wouldn't do any good anyway due to the loophole that allows companies to call you if you already do business with them. But the FTC doesn't pursue individual complaints, just adds them to a database to use if & when they decide to investigate a company. So what else can I do?
moreResolved Question: Buying Agent required to see a house for sale?
We are interested in looking at the house next door that is for sale. We called the selling agent and they told us that we had to have a buying agent to see the house. Obviously this is a bad business practice (because you limit your potential buyers), but is this illegal from a anticompetive viewpoint? Didn't Realtors just settle something similar with the FTC?
clarification due to response: I am not looking for them to represent me. I have sold a house previously without an agent on either side so they are not always needed. Buying agents are helpful in finding houses and negotiating - if you don't want to to these yourself.
"LONG TERM REALTOR BUYER/SELLER'S AGENT, INVESTOR"
1) I am not a "mover and shaker" in the real estate business, nor did I claim to be. Only a agent that is afraid of the changing methodology of real estate sales would post such a reply.
I just happened into the situation where I didn't need an agent to show my previous house nor did the buyer need one to look for houses. After that part is done agents are not necessary...its all contracts and closing. The Title agency handle everything.
2) I never asked to view this property by myself. I would assume that a motivated sellers agent would come out and be there. I never said that I assumed I could do this either.
3) I can't go to the neighbors and knock on the door. It is a house that was foreclosed upon and is now vacant.
4) Typing in CAPS does not make your reply any better. It just makes you look juvenile.
Your first part of you answer was good. Thank You. You should have just left it at that.
moreVoting Question: Where to report a kirby representative?
A kirby rep came to my house. He was rude to me and very unprofessional trying to undermine me. I've reported him to corporate and they're not helpful cause I don't know the exact office he was from. I've called all the surrounding offices and they all claim to not know who they are. I know details about this man. He didn't leave a business card so I obviously dont know the last name of him or what office but I need help reporting him. I've reported kirby to the FTC, soon the BBB, the Michigan AG, and senator. If this qualifies as harassment i'll be calling the michigan police dept. Anyway I need sources of where to report this matter to.
I have his first name. And yes I am sure thank you very much. He brought the stupid thing in my house.
moreResolved Question: Will my ex-husband get away with a Green Card scam?
I was recently divorced from a guy who used me to get a Green Card.
The first thing I need to say is that from time I met him, until shortly before I left him, I was having serious medical problems made me very ill and affected my judgment.
If I'd been healthy I never would have fallen for it, and I know he used it, and probably targeted me because I was just that, an easy target.
Having said that, I'll try to make this short...
Not long before I left him, we went to INS and got his Conditional Green Card. (He never got the Permanent Green Card through me.)
After that, he turned into a different person. He got mean and nasty, stopped showering and changing his clothes, and became abusive. I found out he lied about vital bits of personal info, and his parents don't know about me (they're in his home country). He started saying I should never talk to them. I realized that I had been pushed into marriage. I remembered him saying we had to get married immediately or he would have to go back to his country. There were other things, but you get the idea....
So when I was better, I left him, I got a divorce, and I reported everything I know to INS.
Later I found out he had put my name on his credit card without my permission. I took it off, called INS again, and the FTC. Unbelievably, it's not a crime, since he didn't use my Social Security number. Snce he did it when we were married, it supported my suspicions, but it's still not a crime because we were married.
He's not only still in the US, he's going to an Ivy League college and still making connections.
Not only did he do this to me, he could do this to someone else.
I've done every thing I can.
He should be in jail or back in his country.
Is there ever any justice for someone like this?
me H:
no, actually I'm thrilled!! wouldn't you be?
this has always been my lifelong dream!
moron, LMAO
MG: thanks for your answer, it's nice to know some intelligent human beings are answering questions tonight :)
George L:
I'm closing my email now, so if you have an answer to my question could you add it here as an edit or a comment? Thanks!
Note:
I already notified the US Citizenship & Immigration Service (that's what I meant by INS). Thanks again!

moreVoting Question: Obama, can you make sure you reform donotcall.gov? ?
It should be obvious that a lot of us folks would want our phone number be part of a universal do not call, period! no surveyors, politics, any calls at all. in fact, i think u can make more money if you prosecute these offender! what do you say obama, give us the option to have complete op out. If the FTC cant' handle it, then let another branch handle it. From the way i look at it, the government is making a money off the people by selling the list of do not calls, yet at the same time, we aren't given the option for complete opt out!
moreResolved Question: I saw alot of people complaining about Predicto Mobile. Are you getting charged $9.99?
This company has made unauthorized charges to my phone and refuses to remove them. They say that I signed up for monthly service but did not.
I got their phone number and reported them to the FTC.
Predicto's number is 1-800-360-0518. Of course I was told they couldn't remove the charge. As soon as I used the word Steal, she got a little mad. Guess the truth hurts.
The number for the FTC is 1-877-382-4357. Please call if you have had a problem with Predicto as the FTC will only do something after enough phone calls.
moreResolved Question: Help! Will I be a victim of a fake check scam from this free survey site I signed up for?
I've been trying to find ways to earn money online. I ran into so many scams--I'm disappointed that the FTC or the BBB isn't doing enough to take these scammers offline. Anyway, I found something that does sound legitimate. I won't get rich right away, but I'm still skeptical. The site's called Inboxdollars.com. I signed up for free, and get paid like 50 cents for each survey, complete free offers, read paid emails, and got a $5 sign up bonus. So far they credited a total of $9.44 to my membership account. For payment, I can request it by check in the mail (I have to make at least $30 to get a payment), no paypal account required. I'm extremely hesitant about these checks though, like I'm so scared that they're gonna be fake. What should I do once I earned enough to get my first payment? Should I cancel my membership with them right now and shred any checks I get? Should I present these checks to my bank to find out rather or not it's fake? How can I tell if checks are fake? If it's a scam, I'm gonna report them asap. How can I find out if Inboxdollars is accredited with the BBB?

moreResolved Question: Any attorneys out there? Cash Gifting question
I have a student who has asked me to find out whether cash gifting is legal. I have searched the FTC database and have also called the FTC and spoke with a representative. There are cases that are illegal, mostly involving orgs that misrepresent, or break the mail or phone laws. From a legal standpoint, legal or no?
moreResolved Question: How to contact the office of the president of cingular
This has been an ongoing concern for me. I will try to make it short.
For over a year the new AT&T has messed up my account month after month and I have to call every 30 days and remain on the phone with yet another cust. service rep for 2 to 3 hours having to explain the concern. Each month I am told it is resolved and yet Im am still calling , When a new bill cycle comes it starts all over again due to the large mistakes still taking place. I have been with cingular for almost 6 years, have 5 phone lines and give them several thousands of dollars per year. I have called the Office of the president and have left 3 voicemails, called the contact supervisor and has yet after a week to return my call to get this problem resolved. I NEED THE DIRECT NUMBER TO THE PRESIDENT OF AT&T wireless. I am livid at how things have happened and the disrepsect the company shows towards a loyal consumer. Please if anyone has a direct number I need it badly. My next step is to contact fcc, ftc, bbb, ect. I can not understand with all the mistakes, hours taken away from my family and still no resolve. Please anyone, help.
moreResolved Question: Is Time Warner engaging in false advertising on their websites?
Please reference the following link...
http://neohio.moredigitaltrends.com/bundle/?gclid=CIKIwJu3_pQCFQkYQgod-RJcqQ
According to the bullet points, you can (among other things)
"Talk from morning 'til night with Digital Phone's unlimited calling anywhere in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. Enjoy the most popular calling features at no extra cost."
Just below that it mentions that we can get the bundle for $89.95.
But the fine print below that states "Offer applies to Digital Access Service, Road Runner 1.5 Mbps service, and Digital Home Phone Unlimited in-state service".
So, you get the slower speed internet access and ONLY unlimited in-state calling.
Could this be considered deceptive?
I would also recommend clicking around on this site because others parts seem to be deceiving the customers as to what they are getting.
I plan to file a complaint with the FTC and get the word out about Time Warner's shady sales practices.
moreResolved Question: Can you demand proof that an advertised used car has been sold?
Texas mandates that dealers include the VIN number with each advertised vehicle. I've been shopping for a used car now for some time and on more than one occasion I have been told "That car has already been sold" only to see the same car advertised a week later with the same VIN number. Can I demand proof that this car, with that specific VIN number, has indeed been sold? I'm really concerned that the practice of bait and switch is far too common and that the dealers are betting on the common populace's ignorance to not call them on it. I'm contemplating filing a complaint with the BBB, the state Attorney General's office and the FTC for false advertising. I would just like to handle it on my own if I can. Thanks in advance.
moreResolved Question: Identity theft HELP!!!!?
I received a troubling phone call from a woman stating that a man she was involved with saying me and him were dating. Not the case at all. Turns out he somehow found my information created email accounts and pretended to be me to make her jealous. I emailed the accounts and let them know i knew and was filing complaints. He had the nerve to email me back saying he was me and misspelling my name!! He even gave the lady who called my parents phone number which she used to call me. All the information was my maiden information. I already put flags on my credit, reported the email accounts to yahoo.com plan to file a police report and claim with the FTC. Does anyone else know what other options I have at this point. Since my name is going back to my maiden name soon do I need to worry? Is ther anything else I can do?
Ive had my identity stolen in the past and the lady who called me lives in Pennslyvania and her story was too detailed to be a hoax or joke. It was really sad. Im not overreacting Im trying to protect myself.
My identity was stolen in the past. I received a call from dell saying someone tried to open an account with my name, address and phone #. This was about 4 years ago. I put flag up and later changed my last name and everything was fine. I am now in th final stages of a divorce and things are being put in my maiden name again, The lady who called me knew too much previous information about me. My friends are eliminated from this because one they don't know my parent home phone or information about me before i was married. This is a seperate incident
moreResolved Question: Living Essentials/Cigarrest Rip Off/Scam?
Last year I tried and cancelled CigArrest and not without a lot of phone calls and hassles. Today I noticed a charge from Living Essentials, a company I never heard of until I started researching and found complaints from other CigArrest customers that their accounts were also debited frauduently by this company. I have 3 different phone numbers for this/these companies and all I get is a recorded message stating that they are closed. I spent the morning filing out complaints with the BBB, FTC, CA & FL Attorney General's Offices and last but not least my bank. And now I have to take time out of work to fill out paperwork with my bank.
Does anyone know what else can be done to stop this company from these illegal and fraudulent practices? I always believed that when you cancel an account from one company, that an affiliated company does not have the right to charge you for goods/services you never requested. I read that over 600 complaints have been made with the CA BBB. Help.

moreResolved Question: Can a civil suit be filed against telemarketers that disobey the do not call list?
I know you can file with the FTC for offenders of the do not call list, but my telemarketers now just let the phone ring and when you answer they hang up. Can I file a civil suit against them for harassment or some other thing to get them to stop. I am filing a police report tomorrow and am forwarding that number to the attorney general in their state, but I think a monetary penalty might speak louder than words, since words do not work.
I am up to date with the do not call list, the no right option does not work with 800 numbers, so I guess I am stuck, I still think a class action suit should be an option. Thanks for your answers
moreResolved Question: Has Anyone been Scammed by Global Gold?
They are offering a fake credit card and ripped me off. Charged a bunch of stuff to my credit card? I reported to the FTC at http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/complaint.shtm or call 1-877-382-4357. Anyone else have this issue? They also go by First National Gold,First Plus Platinum, Firtst Universal Platinum. They will charge you for Voicemail, and ID Watchdog, which I believe are all owned by the same people. It does not disclose this in the terms and it is hidden at the bottom of the site. This is considered misleading by the FTC. Anybody else been frauded or scammed by these guys?
