Resolved Question: Vivid dream about smuggling cocaine past an airport. Meaning?

I had a dream that I was in my apartment at college and that people on the intercom were telling us to pack before a certain time or they'd do it themselves. I had a brick of cocaine in one of my chest of drawers that was really worrying me. Then some guy from Rolling Stone magazine came to do a lecture at our school. For some reason, I decided that I hated him, but everyone else seemed to love him. Also, when we were waiting in line, he kept asking questions that applied to my life, but when I'd look at him, I'd notice he was talking to someone else. I convinced myself that he was a "tool," and that that's why everyone liked him. Anyways, during his speech I went to the restroom and tried to figure out how I was going to sneak the cocaine off campus and past the airport. Then I left on my way back to my apartment and, on the floor outside the auditorium where the guy was speaking, I found the place littered with old Rolling Stone newspapers--yes newspapers--from the 60s and early 70s. I picked one up because I was sure that they were probably very valuable, and then went on to my room. There, I tried various ways of hiding the coke: wrapping it in a blanket, putting it in my pocket, stashing it in my backpack. I wasn't convinced that any of them would work on the airport security guys, though. Then I went back to the auditorium, and again couldn't understand why everyone loved this journalist guy except me. I kept worrying about drug-sniffing dogs and even considered just flushing the cocaine down the toilet, but I couldn't bring myself to do that cause it was so valuable. I went back to my room and then decided to put the cocaine in an empty Starbucks coffee cup. I still wasn't completely convinced if that was going to work, or whether or not they would be able to see it through the x-ray thing--and then I woke up. I'm curious if this weird dream has any meaning.  more

Voting Question: How do I clean the outside of my windows in a 4th floor apartment?

I just moved in here and the outside of the windows are grimy to the point of obscuring vision. The super is backlogged constantly to the point that the broken intercoms are low priority. A pressure washer wouldn't reach even if I did have access to water outside. For most of the windows I can try a long handled squeegee from the next window over, but I can't do that with the two rooms that only have one window. I've tried attaching wet cloth to an algae scraper (two magnets that you can clean the inside of a fish tank with) but even with one small piece of paper towel, the thing drops. Help me?  more

Resolved Question: Problems with the super and landlord NYC?

Hello, My mother and I live in an apartment in uptown and we are having some problems. The apartment was passed down to us from my grand parents and is an old building. Like all old buildings do this one has many problems some of the issues include: --no intercom --the building door is not locked -- There are no cameras --the roof door is always open --the walls of the apt haven’t been painted in the 9 years we been living there -- The walls are a crack in some places -- And every time water spills it goes straight to the apartment below This are some of them you can imagine the rest. We constantly ask the super to fix some of this problems but he never does. His excuse is to bring it to curt if we want to cause he is not going to do nothing about it. He says I party too much and he got complains from the other tenants, also once the hand washer broke and he took pictures but didn’t fix it saying that he going to use it in curt if we take him to curt. So what can I do about it? I do party every weekend. But is because I work and study on the week days and on the weekends I like to let loose. Also he adds that we are renting rooms and he will bring it up in curt. We do rent a room but is a friend of mine who was living with us for free but now has a job and decide to put up some money. Ok if their name is not on the lease, but mine is not because i have the right as i am family of the tenant right? it doesn't make any difference how long i know him for and that if i ask him to leave he would have to stay on the street?  more

Resolved Question: Would you go back to the woman you fled from for half a grain of intellect and wine? A long poem for you all?

Today the man is thy master and the tops of the city skyscrapers are piercing the skies red, Today I wander amongst the tin bins and human ashtrays and wonder aloud, “What man you live like sh*t, go make a livin’ selling on the corner, Provide for the woman you shelter under concrete overhangs and apartment flats. Go, go, go proclaim your love f’her, sleep betwixt the sheets and love!” Hail you, taxi gleamin’ yellow and chrome silver and red light fixtures, Give a ride to your fellow man. Hail to the commander in chief—smokin’ big rolled tobacco and chewin’ As I scrawl a thousands miles away on the pavement and big city banks Weeping and snuggling on the banks of the bay of pigs in Chicago and N-ew Y-o-r-k bea-u-ties, all dressed to kill in their pearls and satin, Jesus I’m in love a fool for the city and her liveliest scores performed in big draping concert halls, I wonder how I could have left you here, alone, All alone to bemoan another loss another kill alone, alone, Left to wander for kicks get stoned smacked A hundredfold by a paper bag, Boy, I stand across from the flats, kickin’ garbage and pacing Waiting for a face to show forth behind the drapes, They’re satin and purple an’ gold intertwined for the den of royalty And here I stand waiting for the face I loved to leave behind For kicks and intellects, glasses and sleeves, Morphine and sweating genius backseat to half-a-grain prodigies Who shout and yell and sell and live and scream “Sh*t! I’m Dreaming I died and why do I enjoy it so!” To drinks under the skylines and late night cafeterias drinking coffee And contemplating the late night radio being blasted over intercoms: Did you know Russia killed a journalist today? He died pledging toilet paper And oil for all the poor folk. Know why he was shot? Them Russians fear socialism uprisings, almost as badly as we Fear the DPRK and her nuclear ambitions and holy rosaries—O, A shame a shame, a living crying shame on two legs and with dangling genitals, Life hath dealt a shameful hand, I weep and drag menthol and glimpse a pay phone to fog up the glass, And frame a smiley face with a pose that would make Yabyum lovers blush— To hell I say! Love is a scam! I say it is so because no woman pines For my thighs as I yearn for hers, No woman wants to love a man with naught but 2.35 in his jacket pocket, Woman wants big man! Woman wants man to take her out! Woman wants midnight lovin’! I’m sleeping dear, let’s fuck in the morning. Alas, I’m a loveless soul with a sorrowful halo of angels and smiling gods To keep me afloat in this love tempest, Woe! O!—a cross in the heart for Lawrence Callahare! A wine glass up front For the distraught and may the radio refrain from its loving—“There will never be, Another you”— _________________________________________________ An explanation of this poem is needed, I think: First, the poem centers around a man who goes back to New York in search of the woman he left behind. The man expresses his regret and sadness in the first few lines of this, and the rest is interspersed throughout the poem. He sees the homeless man and orders him to go back to his wife that he ran away from--this emphasizes his sudden awareness of what he has done. It must also be said that when he returns to New York, he has become something of an addict to various substances, such as the morphine stated in the poem above. The poem then proceeds to tell about his various doings and adventures, but ultimately finds him standing across the street from the home where the woman he left behind now lives. He struggles to go over and see her, eventually despairing and giving up to stroll around the city and finding ways to mess himself up. Ultimately, he gives up, crying out "a cross in the heart for Lawrence Callahare! A wine glass up front For the distraught and may the radio refrain from its loving—“There will never be, Another you”— I included this information because the structure of the poem is intentionally chaotic in structure, much as the random fleeting thoughts of a man with a burdened conscience. Thank you for reading. Also, this was not the intentioned structure I intended for the poem. The structure was actually planned out and constructed to keep in time with the ramblings of the man, however I could not keep the original structure for the one posted here because for some reason Yahoo!Answers won't allow me to. Oh well, just keep in mind that what you are reading isn't necessarily the whole picture.  more

Resolved Question: Is it legal for my neighbor to sign for my packages without my consent?

Yesterday the UPS man buzzed my apartment, and I have an intercom, so I said, "Who is it?" and then pressed listen, and I heard a guy from my building down there telling the UPS man "Oh, I guess she's not home. Do you want me to give this package to her?" And so the UPS man let the guy sign for the package! I did not give consent for this. Anyways, the guy walks up the stairs, right past my door! He didn't even attempt to knock on my door and give me my package! So I poked my head out, and said, "Is that for me?" And he started acting really nervous, and told me that he thought I wasn't home and that he was trying to do me a favor! I was very mad! Is that even legal? I'm not going to call the cops or anything but I'm just curious.  more

Resolved Question: Is this actionable in regards to my rental agreement?

I began living in my apartment in January 2007. At that time, the premises was well-kept, habitable, and full of residents that were respectful and courteous. I moved in to this building for a number of reasons. The rent was good, utilities were almost completely paid. It was advertised as having secure, intercom access, on-site management, after-hours emergency support, and working laundry facilities, along with free heat. I live here, happily, for over a year. When my one year lease was up, I decided to continue month to month, as I anticipated moving in with my boyfriend. In May 2008, without notice to the residence, they fired the on-site manager. I did not find this out until a couple months later, when locked out and could not find anyone to help me get in... It took the management company over an hour to get someone to let me in, and they charged me 50 dollars. Since then, we have lost a number of residents, who were replaced with a ridiculous bunch, that now cause police calls to the building one or more times a month. There is a hotbed apartment now. There are regular acts of vandalism, ranging anywhere from writing on the walls of the elevators, to human feces being left in the hallways in paper bags, and the stairwells are regularly trashed by "parties". The front doors are glass, and have been broken before, to let people in. Windows in the lobby were dismantled to let people in. Now, the "secure access" front doors are regularly left unlocked by careless residents, so people can get in. The management company still advertises as having onsite management and secure access, despite not having a building manager for over 6 months, and my repeated calls to report compromising of the security of the building. It's to the point where I finally flat out offered to take on temporary building manager status. I want to move, but I don't have the money, but I know something needs to be done. There are elderly people living here, along with young women, and rising crime rates in the area have me fearful of the safety of the residents. The building management company keeps saying they will call me about it, to discuss the temp arrangement. They use the "we aren't getting any responses from our ad" as an excuse to do nothing to ensure the safety of the residents. Even though in situations, such as an idiot setting off our fire alarm, I have taken the responsibility of handling the situation on, they still have yet to come through with their "promise" to instill authority, so that I can address the rising number of incidents. They mostly just say, call the cops. I'm tired, and I'm wondering if there's any actionable standpoint I have to cause forced action from the company. I believe my original lease states that there is a secure entry, and I agreed to respect that fact, so why aren't they? Do I have any ground to stand on since I'm still on a month to month? I can't find any renter's rights documentation that address security issues like this specifically. Any help or advice I can get would be most appreciated. I am not saying that they are responsible for local crime rates. What I am saying is that they are misrepresenting the property by saying it is secure, when it is not, and by saying there is on-site management, when there is not. I'm saying my concern is escalated due to the fact that crime is going up a bit. Meaning, there are people that are moving in, thinking we have secure access, but we don't despite having the capacity for it, because the company is not putting anyone on site to enforce the regulations. I know that if they had someone on site, people would have been evicted by now. I don't think it's an unrealistic expectation for the company to uphold their side of the advertising and the rental agreements they have already put in place. I am in Omaha, NE.  more

Resolved Question: So I JUST woke up and had this dream, What does it mean?

So I just woke up, I know it is alittle late to wake up, but I had this weird dream. What could it mean? I was in an apartment room, it was apparently mine. I was alone, my parents were not home. I kept calling my boyfriend to come over but he wasn't picking up his phone. Then someone buzzed the intercom, I couldn't understand who it was, at first I thought it was my dad, then I thought it was a family friend and then I thought it was probably a complete stranger and I got scared. So i buzzed them and asked who are you? They said just open the door its ok. So I didn't open te door for them, I kept thinking what if someone else opens it for them and they come to my room and hurt me. So I went in the washroom to hide and called my parents. At first I kept dialing the wrong number, then payed attention more and dialed the right one. I asked when my parents are coming home to feel more secure. Then the next thing I remember is my whole house was filled with people trying to party. I kept trying to kick people out but more came in. I didn't know any of them. So I started yelling at all of them to leave. I was telling everyone I am calling the cops. They didn't seem to listen. People would just push their way through my door and come in. It was so hard to keep them out. They all told me that they heard there was a party here. I told them there is no party and that they were all crazy. In the end I had about 5 people left and everyone was out in the hallways trying to get back in. I yelled at them telling them if anyone stole something I will find them. So they all started searching through their bags, and some people threw things back in my apartment saying, ew what is this, I don't want it. It would end up being a shirt. Then I woke up.  more

Resolved Question: It's been along time, Is this any good?

I haven't written in a long time. I wrote this yesterday. It still needs a lot of details and more work but it's a start. I don't know if I want to make it a short story or novel. Please let me know if it seems to be any good, what I might be able to improve on. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Friday Someone’s buzzing at the door. That noise is so annoying “Who is it?” I say into the intercom. “It’s Sandy.” My little sister. She comes by and checks on me once in a while. I really don’t want any company, but she’s my sister. “Come on up,” I reply. After I buzz her in and open my door I go back to making my solitary dinner. It was a couple of minutes. I’m not close to the front door, but I’m on the first floor. Sandy comes in. “Hey, how are you?” She asks cheerfully sitting in her usual seat at my counter. She’s too cheerful, always. And why shouldn’t she be? She has a perfect life. The perfect guy who wants to marry her. He even gives her all the time she wants to figure out things, even if it takes longer then he would like. Sandy has everything I don’t. The house, great education, the job that goes along with said education, and a guy who loves her. I had most of those things. Most recently I lost my guy. A guy who loved me so much, a guy who I waited for while he served 2 years in the army, and a guy who couldn’t get over the fact that I just didn’t trust him yet. I can’t help it, but at least I told him instead of hiding it. “I’m fine.” She knew I wasn’t, it’s only been a week since he moved out. “Are you staying for dinner?” I was almost sure she’d say no. “Can’t, plans,” Sandy replied. Surprise, surprise always with the plans. I’m glad though. I didn’t want company, especially cheerful company. “I just came by to check on you. Mom says you haven’t called.” she explained. She didn’t have to explain. I knew mom would send her eventually. “Why would I call mom? To hear an I told you so? I don’t need that right now.” “I know, but she’s still worried__” The door opened. There he was. My heart still flutters when I see him. Will. What’s he doing here? “Oh, I didn’t think you’d be here. I just came for the last of it.” He indicated the box next to the coat closet full of his things I’ve found around the apartment. “It’s fine,” I said. “Just let me do one more walk through.” I walked past him, smelling his cologne, around the living room, and into the bedroom. I could hear Sandy chatting with him. Like how he was settling at Jake’s house. I don’t care. He was the one who decided to move out. To be honest If I got rid of everything that reminded me of him I’d have to get rid of everything. I found one of his hoodies. He told me it was mine. I only let him wear it so it smelled like him. I knew he liked it but always let me have my way, because I bought it. It reminds me of him too much. I brought it back to the door, the box was now in Will’s hands. “When you said you had some of my things I didn’t expect this.” The box was full of DVDs. They were his, He owned them before he met me. I’m more of a DVD person. Will likes movies, but doesn’t like watching them over and over. “Oh, no, this hoodie is yours,” he said when he saw what I threw at the box. I’m on edge right now. Always on the verge of crying. “Please, just take it.” My voice was shaking. I went back to my bedroom and closed the door before I would start crying. I’m so stupid, I’m so stupid. Why can’t I get over it and just trust him. He hasn’t done anything since he’s been back to make me not trust him. I can’t help it. I could tell Will that I trust him, but I’d be lying. So he was with one girl and he said he stopped it when he realized what was happening. And the other one says I’m to blind to see that he cheated all the time. Logically I believe what she said isn’t true, but there’s that little voice saying but what if it is. Will was and excellent liar, and he probably still could be. That’s the problem. Will says it’s not true, but I don’t know if I can believe him. He says he doesn’t lie anymore, but I could never tell before that he was lying. I don’t know. I’ve cried myself dry. Hopefully Will is gone. “Sorry about that,” I told Sandy who hasn’t moved from the counter. “You shouldn’t have had to see that. You won’t tell mom right?” “No, I won’t. I can stay if you want.” “No,” I said. “I’d rather be alone right now.” “Okay,” She hugged me. “Call me if you need anything though.” “I don’t need anything,” I replied. “Yeah, but still call,” she said and left. Saturday I didn’t even bother to see who was calling at the door. I barely had the energy to buzz them into the building. Jake let himself into the apartment. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know Will was going to come…” He stopped. I was sitting at the counter staring at the key. “He left his key last night. I didn’t even realize it until I got up this morning,” I said. “Are you still in your pajamas?” “Oh,” I looked at myself. “Sorry, what time is it?  more

Resolved Question: I can't believe that I am engaged! I am overjoyed!?

I am positive many members of Yahoo! Answers have read my questions about my boyfriend's proposal. On my last question, I explained that I invited my boyfriend over to apologize for rejecting his marriage proposal. After hearing from everyone, I decided that I remarkably love my boyfriend. Once I heard his voice on my apartment's intercom, I knew my life would be better with him. I ran down the eight flights of stairs with joyful tears running down my cheeks. I hurried to my boyfriend, wrapped my arms around his neck, and my legs around his waist. Then I said, "I'm so sorry. I honestly love you!" He grinned and kissed my cheek. At that moment, he kneeled and pulled out the ring again. He said lovingly, "Virginia, will you marry me?" Suddenly the waterworks came. "Yes, Trent, I'll marry you!" I kissed Trent with more passion than ever. It was electrifying. We talked until Trent had to go to work. I then called my mama and told her the good news. Any tips for newly engaged couple?  more

Resolved Question: i broke something (property)! HELP! What do I do?

Ok this is the deal I was playing soccer and this kid stared at me for a really long time. I didn't know what his problem was whether he wanted to fight or not. So my nerves started trembling. My heart started to race. When I walked up to the bench I stared to see if he would stare back. He didn't. I walked up to my building. I threw the soccer ball at anger towards the building's door which is made of crystal. You know how you have that space between the intercom, the door, and the door where u actually enter the building? I got so angry I pushed the crystal and I was like WTF the thing almost broke. It looked like someone shot the crystal. I ringed my apartment and I ran fast up stairs so I could know that no one saw it was me. Right now nobody knows I did anything. It's been about 25 minutes. I did this out of anger. I am only 15 btw. The only way I can release the anger inside of me is by pushing things, bagging on the wall, etc. I just hate it when people stare at me because.. When I was little people used to stare at me and they always called me names and always wanted to fight. I was a little bitch back then. Now, I am paranoid about this. This is a problem that might be with me for the rest of my life. So what do I do. I am really friend's with the "Super" or the "Manager" of the apartment building. Should I tell him I did this out of anger and risk some punishment from my parents from having to pay to get the glass fixed or should I just keep quiet and just hope they get the glass fixed as soon as possible? This has happen before (by other people) and I see the people repair the glass right away. I don't know what to do! I think I'm going to fess up because I don't want to have this consciousness because I'm going to Florida for a week and I want to have a good time and get away from everything, but at the same time I don't want the super to crap out on me and tell me parents they have to pay for the crystal and use all the money on the trip for the glass. I don't know how much that thing costs. It's like a crystal door and it has a big frame on it when u enter the building. Thing looks like $300-500.  more

Resolved Question: Can I sue my landlord for money over this?

I live in Saskatchewan. My tenancy was from September '07 until the end of June '08. 1)I've been catching my landlord letting himself into my apartment without notifying me. 2)My buzzer/intercom system mysteriously stopped working a couple of months into my tenancy. The landlord was notified in Nov. but has yet to fix it. Though it's obviously meant to be a functioning fixture in the suite, my lease doesn't mention it. Can he argue that I wasn't entitled to it? 3)My apartment has never been sealed from the outside. There's a gap in the wall that's tightly stuffed with bare, pink, fluffy insulation, and the fuzz was all there was between the inside and -45C chills this winter. Heating (at no cost to me) made the place habitable, so this problem didn't affect my wallet. It was like that when I moved in, and was supposed to be fixed in 2 weeks. 4)I've been charged rent that's above average in my city despite the maintenance failures. Could that factor into this?  more

Resolved Question: Have false fire alarms created a dangerous non-response in people?

after hearing false fire alarms over and over do you think people have become immune to the warnings they give? i have seen people in packed malls not blink and eye when a fire alarm goes off, they just go about shopping, even with the red lights flashing. and in apartment buildings when the alarms and the automated warning voice comes over the intercom, people dont even think once that perhaps there is a fire in the building, they just get annoyed and turn the TV up. Do you think this is a dangerous habit for people to have?  more

Resolved Question: Did the DHL guy steal my hard drive?

He said he left it by my mail box. I live in a pretty big apartment complex. I was home too and he didn't call me on the intercom or anything like they normally do. I am so annoyed. Normally they call me, or knock on my door, or leave it in front of my door.  more

Resolved Question: I moved in with my boyfriend to an apartment he has been living in for awhile?

We've been living together for two months now.Earlier today while he was at work the doorbell rang. We live on the third floor and have one of those intercom systems. I asked who is it and the person said nothing they continued to ring the bell 5 more times and each time I asked who is it they said nothing until the last time, they finally asked for my boyfriend it was some chick I asked who is it , and they didn't answer so I went downstairs to see who it was, but they were gone. Of course when I told him he didn't have a clue who it was, and reminded me that he did had a life before me, which I know but I'm still pissed and don't know how to handle the situation. I don't need a piece of paper to be married to someone! Second I don't believe he is cheating just because someone rang the damn bell I'm not that insecure! It just one of those disadvantages to moving into someone elses space. I'm sure it was someone from his past I just wish there was away to prevent it from happening again.  more

Resolved Question: Why is she doing this? What's her game?

I met a girl, got her number and asked her on a date. She said yes, but stood me up and never returned my phone message or email. Then 4 months later I saw her again and she apologized, but never gave a reason why, but we hung out a few times and did homework sets together. Before I left for the summer she invited me to come over to her apartment and she would cook me a dinner, but she never answered her phone or the apartment intercom, and later she was just like "sorry, I guess I am not a good friend." She has now been calling me over the past couple days just to talk and also talking about how other guys are jerks to her and I am so nice. And she wanted to know if I will go to the upcoming dance with her in 2 months or so. What's her game? Like standing me up then calling and talking about gut problems? Is she just trying to keep me wrapped around her for her own amusement? Or maybe she is just a flakey person and doesn't mean it? We are in college.  more

Resolved Question: How Can I Fix My Door Buzzer/Intercom?

I have a Jeron door intercom. There are about 3-4 buzzers on there. We can buzz our apartment from outside, we can buzz someone in from our apartment, but there is no working communication. If I try to listen from the apartment, it gives me a sharp noise or feedback. If I talk from the apartment, the person outside can not hear anything. I could trouble my landlord about this, but I rather fix it myself. Help!  more

Resolved Question: Rental legal issue?

The front door to my apartment building is a key entry with a intercom and buzz entry. Unfortunatully, someone keeps breaking the lock and out of frustration, my apartment complex just replace the door handle with one without a lock. Now anybody can get in and out as they please and the security of my building is gone. What is the purpose of an intercom and buzz entry if there is no lock on the door? They also refuse to get a security camara. My question is what can I do to get my apartment complex to fix this problem? Could I take legal action?  more

Resolved Question: The intercom buzzer is broken in my newish apartment - will the real estate agent fix it, or is too tricky?

My intercom works fine, I hear when people buzz me and I can talk to them. But when I go to "buzz them up" the buzz sounds really weak and sporradic like there's a loose connection or something. I will report it to my real estate agent but I was wondering how big the job is and how likely the owner would be to fix it. Would it involve finding the wires that run from my top floor apartment down to the foyer door? It seems like a huge job to me but I really want it working again. I am aware that it's not the real estate agent's RESPONSIBILITY to fix the problem. The process with my agent is to put in a maintenance request, which they pass on to the owner who then decides if they would like to fix it. There also is no onsite handyman.  more

Resolved Question: Apartment Etiquette, was what I did rude?

I live in an apartment complex with 2 towers connected by a tunnel. One night when I was coming home after shopping, I went to the building that wasn't mine and in the vestibule there were 2 girls trying to call up to another tenant to get in. I unlock the door, and as I'm going though the door I hear the male tenant on the intercom say:"You're not coming up here" So I hurry to close the door behind me so that they cannot piggy-back just as one of the girls is trying to grab the door. So then I'm just trying to get through the tunnel to my building to get away from this situation and as I'm going down the hall, I hear "F$*king rude!" being yelled down to me. My thoughts were: When I heard "You're not getting in here" or whatever it was to that effect. I thought they were genuinely just there to bug him and why would I let someone in the building to bother another tenant or possibly do damage? Second, it's not my responsibility to let them in, they're not my guests. Am I justified?  more
